RAS filtration

Filtration that keeps up with your feed.

Solids, fine particles and ammonia leave every tank, every hour. We size the drum filter, skimmer and biofilter together, on peak feed, so no stage becomes the bottleneck.

The filtration chain

Four stages, in this order, for a reason.

Solids caught early never become ammonia. That is why the drum filter comes first and the biofilter last.

مرشحات الأسطوانة

A rotating 74 μm screen removes feed and faeces soon after they leave the tank.

Settlers

Heavy solids drop out by gravity. Useful before the drum filter on high-solids systems.

مزيلات البروتين

Foam fractionation lifts fine particles and dissolved organics the screen lets through.

مرشحات حيوية MBBR

Moving media carry nitrifying bacteria that convert ammonia to nitrate.
What the research shows

More solids out is not the same as cleaner water.

A 2025 trial on 12 freshwater trout RAS compared four solids-removal set-ups (). Each stage did a different job, which is why the chain is planned as a whole.Aquacultural Engineering, 2025

Which stages do you need?

The species and water decide the chain.

Not every farm needs every stage. This is where we usually start, before your feed and flow numbers refine it.

Sizing review

We size the chain together, before we quote.

A drum filter sized on average flow overflows at peak. A biofilter sized on tank volume stalls when feed rises. We check these on every order.

Peak flow

With margin, not the daily average.

أقصى تغذية يومية

It sets the solids and ammonia load on every stage.

Head loss and levels

So gravity flow still works through the whole chain.

Service space

Room around each unit for cleaning and repair.

الأسئلة الشائعة

Filtration questions.

Not always. In freshwater it helps at high stocking density or when fine solids cloud the water. In marine and shrimp systems it is standard.

Yes. Send your peak flow and water type and we check the size against the rest of your system before quoting.

On peak daily feed, because feed decides how much ammonia the bacteria must remove. Tank volume alone gives the wrong answer.

PP bodies where possible. Metal parts in contact with water are chosen for the salinity, stepping up to duplex stainless in seawater. We confirm each wetted part per order.

On high feed loads it takes load off the drum filter. On lighter systems the drum filter alone is usually enough.
