Largemouth bass: our most delivered species.
Five bass farms in China, from 816 m³ in Guizhou to 4,900 m³ in Zhangzhou, our largest delivered farm. Bass are fed heavily and suffer in summer heat. Below: what that means for the design.
delivered bass farms
largest, Zhangzhou
smallest, Guizhou
all five sites
Summer heat is the bass farm’s biggest risk.
Bass grow well in warm water, but not hot water. A 2025 study held juvenile bass at 28 °C and 34 °C under the same ammonia and nitrite exposure; the hot group grew less than half as fast and needed twice the feed per kilogram ().Zhang et al., Antioxidants, 2025
28 °C
Weight gain 12.9%, FCR 1.51, survival 100% in the trial
34 °C
Weight gain 5.3%, FCR 2.98, survival 94.9%; more liver and spleen damage from ammonia and nitrite
Above 33 °C
Liver stress reported
35 °C, prolonged
Growth can stop completely
Above 36 °C
High mortality reported
These are published trial results, not our design values. They are why a bass farm in South China plans for summer water temperature from the first layout.
Hot water makes waste more toxic.
In the same study, ammonia and nitrite rose faster at 34 °C than at 28 °C, and their damage to the fish was greater. Warm water holds less oxygen, the fish eat more, and more of the ammonia is in its toxic form. The biofilter and oxygen have to be sized for the hottest month, not the average ().Zhang et al., Antioxidants, 2025

Feed first, then every stage.
Bass are carnivores fed high-protein feed, so each kilogram of feed carries a large ammonia and oxygen load.
Mục tiêu sản lượng
Tonnes a year and harvest size set the standing biomass.
Lượng thức ăn hàng ngày đỉnh điểm
From biomass and feeding rate in the warmest month.
Biofilter and oxygen
Sized on that peak feed, with standby oxygen.
Solids and flow
Drum filter and pumps on peak flow, so solids leave before they break down.
Five farms, 816 to 4,900 m³.
When a bass farm goes wrong.
Feeding drops in summer
Water too warm
Temperature log; shading or cooling
Fish gasp after feeding
Oxygen short at peak
DO in the tank after feeding; oxygen capacity
Ammonia or nitrite climbs in hot weeks
Biofilter sized on average feed
Feed vs biofilter design; nitrite daily
Liver problems at harvest
Long exposure to heat and nitrogen waste
Temperature and nitrite history
Cloudy water
Solids not removed fast enough
Drum filter screen and backwash
More bass farms than any other species.

Bass farms we delivered.
4,900 m³ in Zhangzhou. Our other bass farms are 3,800, 1,400, 1,200 (shrimp and bass) and 816 m³.
Plan to keep summer water below the range where research reports stress: above 33 °C. At 34 °C, a 2025 trial found bass grew less than half as fast as at 28 °C.
At commercial density, usually. Oxygen demand peaks after feeding and in warm water.
Feed and temperature both peak in summer, and ammonia is more toxic in warm water. A biofilter sized on the average falls short when it matters.
Our Fangcaohu farm runs shrimp and bass. We discuss whether it suits yours.
Yes. All five bass farms are in China, and we have delivered other species in Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia and Japan.
