Indoor shrimp, with water quality you control.
Shrimp systems carry high organic loads and are sensitive to disease. The design questions are density, organics and biosecurity. Below: what the research shows on each, and the two shrimp farms we delivered.

More post-larvae is not more shrimp.
An 84-day indoor RAS trial with Pacific white shrimp at 5 ppt salinity stocked 500, 750 and 1,000 post-larvae per m³. Harvest per m³ came out almost the same; survival, size and feed conversion got worse as density rose ().Suantika et al., J Aquac Res Dev, 2018

Over-stocking buys more post-larvae and more feed for the same harvest, and smaller shrimp. We set the stocking plan on the target size, not on maximum numbers.
The stage shrimp systems depend on.
Shrimp systems build up fine particles and dissolved organics that a drum filter cannot catch. A protein skimmer lifts them out as foam, and foam forms more easily in salt water. In a commercial seawater RAS, ozone at 7 g per kg of feed with foam fractionation worked well; doubling it to 14 g/kg raised residual oxidant in the water ().Aquacultural Engineering, 2023

Seawater, brackish or low-salinity.
Pacific white shrimp can be grown across a wide salinity range, but the water source changes the design. In the trial above, post-larvae were moved from 32 ppt to 5 ppt over 14 days before stocking.
Nước biển
Skimmer works best; metal parts must suit seawater
Wetted materials; ozone dose; make-up water source
Nước lợ
Most stages work as in seawater
Materials; salt supply if water is diluted
Low salinity
Skimmer foams less; post-larvae need acclimation
Skimmer sizing; acclimation plan; mineral balance
One infection can reach every tank.
In a closed loop, shared water carries disease from one tank to the next. Biosecurity is designed in, not added after the first loss.
Clean intake
Make-up water and post-larvae from known sources, treated before they enter.
Split the loop
Separate trains, so a problem in one does not reach the whole farm.
Treat the return
UV or ozone on the water going back to the tanks.
Control entry
Foot baths, hand washing and one-way movement through the building.
When a shrimp system goes wrong.
Water turns brown or foamy in the tanks
Organics building up
Skimmer flow and foam output; feed rate
Shrimp stop feeding after ozone is raised
Residual oxidant reaching the tanks
Oxidant reading; ozone dose; contact time
Survival falls in the second half of the cycle
Density too high for the system
Stocking plan; biomass vs design
Nitrite climbs after stocking
Biofilter not fully started, or low salinity start-up
Biofilter start-up log; nitrite daily
Losses spread tank to tank
Disease carried in shared water
UV dose; split the trains; entry control

1,200 m³ shrimp and bass RAS, Fangcaohu
It depends on target size and the system. In one indoor trial, 500, 750 and 1,000 PL/m³ all gave about 5 kg/m³ at harvest, but higher densities gave smaller shrimp, lower survival and worse feed conversion.
For shrimp, almost always. It removes the fine solids and dissolved organics that build up in shrimp systems.
Often, in the skimmer, at a dose set on feed. Shrimp are sensitive to residual oxidant, so the dose is monitored and kept out of the tanks.
Yes. Post-larvae need acclimation, and the skimmer foams less, so we size it for that. Tell us your water source and salinity.
Our Fangcaohu project runs shrimp and bass. Whether it suits your farm depends on species and water. We discuss it in the layout.
Clean intake, split trains, UV or ozone on the return and controlled entry, planned in the first layout.
We do not promise a yield before we know your system, post-larvae source and management. The trial above gives a sense of scale: about 5 kg/m³ per cycle.
